We welcome you to this family-run gem nestled on the cliffs in the heart of the Lot Valley!
In the heart of the Causses du Quercy Regional Nature Park, on the southern edge of the Lot department, stands the Château de Cénevières. It is here, on the edge of the Lot Valley, between the popular town of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie and the beautiful town of Cajarc, that we are establishing a unique tourist destination where families, heritage enthusiasts, and thrill-seekers alike can come together.
The castle served as a medieval stronghold under Pepin the Short during the capture of Gaiffier, Duke of Aquitaine. The powerful Gourdon family transformed it into a fortified stronghold to fight the English during the Hundred Years’ War. Flottard de Gourdon, and later his son Antoine de Gourdon, fought in the Italian Wars alongside Francis I. Antoine returned with a love for Renaissance architecture and embellished the castle in 1550. He later converted to Protestantism, took part in the Wars of Religion, and hosted Henry IV before the attack on Cahors in late May 1580.
During the tour, which lasts over an hour, you’ll walk through ten furnished rooms (from the 13th, 16th, and 18th centuries) featuring numerous objects and artifacts from these different centuries. Of particular note is a very rare alchemy cabinet featuring paintings based on Ovid’s *Metamorphoses*.
Immerse yourself in a thousand years of living history and let the castle reveal its secrets to you.
Explore the castle at your leisure and let your curiosity be your guide.
Share a special moment at the castle, tailored just for your group.
Experience history in a different way, in the heart of a vibrant and captivating place.
